Feed your empathy wolf!
Strong, care-wing humans feed their empathy wolf for self-care and self-defense.
Welcome back, subscribers to the Substack of Empathy Surplus Network USA.
The duty to care should be top-of-mind awareness.
TOMA stands for top-of-mind awareness or bias and is a measurement term used in the ad industry. The legal duty to care was established in English law in 1760 and is foundational to American law and the First Amendment. It is not TOMA, but it should be. I want our political and legal duty to care for each other’s freedoms as everyone’s TOMA or bias. Without linking empathy to all legislation, democracy for all makes no sense. Consequently, cruel-wing billionaires and their paid legislators have been inhibiting empathy by never talking about it and replacing it with their core value of cruelty.
Care begins with strong self-care and self-defense.
Native American lore since white people landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts,1 about how a caring person is created centers on an internal spiritual struggle between two wolves - a caring wolf and a cruel wolf.2 Their caring person is created by daily feeding his internal and spiritual caring wolf, thus making care over cruelty their preferred TOMA. Their willingness to care for the first white people in their first Winter in the New World is a testament to the Native Americans’s initial caring bias. The cruel bias of the New World’s white supremacist invaders only strengthened their resolve that care begins with self-care and self-defense.
Ohio’s Senate Bill 1 is cruel and meant to be.
SB 1 is one more pro-slavery bill and a direct assault on the health, wealth, and safety of Ohioans by cruel-wing billionaires and their legislators intent on eliminating civil and human rights. Democratic institutions of effective republics, by definition, are meant to be liberally funded TO discriminate FOR diversity, equity, and inclusion. But Holocaust denier Senator Jerry Cirino, the bill’s sponsor, clearly doesn’t care for everyone, saying, “(SB1) is about eliminating what has become institutional discrimination through the establishment and economic support of DEI programs.” 3
Stand with the care wing.
All care-wing Ohioans have a duty to protect and empower each other’s freedoms against cruel-wing billionaires and their legislators. DEI can help. Reframing your advocacy IS social change. One easy way to push back against local cruelty is to be proactive in affirming your care and membership in the care wing of America. Right, left, and middle designations are meaningless. But cruel-wing billionaires and their legislators don’t care. And if you don’t care for everyone, democratic institutions make no sense. SB 1 proponents want to end our American republic and replace it with their dictatorial filth.
Stand with the care wing of Ohio and America.
